This March - 3 very important milestones are colliding. Shamrock, Operation Smile and Dominic. I have decided to do something a little different this year. This March, I will run the Shamrock half marathon to raise $1,000 for Operation Smile, in memory of my son Dominic, this amount will cover 4 surgeries for children with cleft lips and palates. I have set the goal with the end date of Dominic's birthday.
I volunteered for Op Smile when I was in college. It was in 1991 when I first met Dr. and Mrs. Magee. Eleven years later on March 10, when my son Dominic was born with a cleft lip and palate - I knew Dr. Magee was who we needed to call - from that moment on - we were connected.
j&a racing and Operation Smile have impacted my family in the most positive of ways. It's not just the organizations, but the people. Amy & Jerry always being nothing but encouraging and my biggest cheerleaders. Ryan & Kristy always there with a smile or hug - and Bob for reminding me I know myself best - and being the BEST race name announcer in history! Then there is Brigette Magee Clifford who introduced my kids to Op Smile which has had a profound impact on their lives. Chin has traveled the world many times over and learned priceless lessons in leadership.
So - what does all this mean? This year, Shamrock will celebrate its 50th anniversary, Op Smile will celebrate its 40th anniversary and Dominic would have celebrated his 20th birthday.
Amy - you have always encouraged me to tell his story, and I thought this was a great way to do that and shed light on the generosity of J&A and Op Smile. Thank you for those words years ago after the runners panel at Beach Movie Bistro. I never forgot them and every year I share a little more.
I do not like asking for donations, but if you feel compelled to donate - thank you, you can click the link attached to this post to do so. Any amount is appreciated. If you would like to sign up and run with our team - message me and I can get you a link with the details. You can run the 8K, half or full - our goal is to have 40 people raise 40K (40th anniversary).
Thank you to North End Run Club for the support and encouragement to help me find my love for running again.
For as little as $240 and in as few as 45 minutes, Operation Smile can provide life-changing surgery – and renewed hope – for children around the world. Please, consider making your tax-deductible gift today.
